How to Install MacOS High Sierra on AMD Ryzen PC
MacOS High Sierra is a popular operating system that offers many features and improvements over previous versions. However, installing MacOS High Sierra on an AMD Ryzen PC can be challenging, as most of the installation guides are designed for Intel-based systems. In this article, we will show you how to install MacOS High Sierra on an AMD Ryzen PC using a bootable USB drive and a custom kernel.
What You Need
An AMD Ryzen PC with a compatible motherboard and graphics card. For this guide, we will use the Biostar x370gtn motherboard and the Asus Rx580 8gb graphics card.
A Windows PC or a Mac to create the bootable USB drive.
A copy of MacOS High Sierra installer dmg file. You can download it from the App Store on a Mac[^3^] or use a third-party software to download it on a Windows PC.
A copy of AMDHS_INSTALLER v2.5 zip file. This is a custom installer that contains the necessary files and drivers for AMD Ryzen systems. You can download it from this link[^2^].
A copy of TransMac software. This is a Windows program that allows you to create a bootable MacOS USB drive. You can download it from this link: https://www.acutesystems.com/scrtm.htm
How to Create the Bootable USB Drive
Extract the AMDHS_INSTALLER v2.5 zip file to a folder on your Windows PC.
Open TransMac as an administrator and insert your USB flash drive.
Right-click on your USB flash drive in TransMac and select Format Disk for Mac. This will erase all the data on your USB flash drive and format it as HFS+.
Right-click on your USB flash drive again and select Restore with Disk Image. Browse to the folder where you extracted the AMDHS_INSTALLER v2.5 zip file and select the AMDHS_INSTALLER.dmg file. Click OK to start writing the image to your USB flash drive. This may take some time depending on the speed of your USB flash drive.
Once done, eject your USB flash drive safely and label it as AMDHS USB.
